2018 is almost half way over, and there have been some legendary music videos released already this year. Check out this blog for the top 5 best videos so far this year.
Albert Einstein once said, “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”
There’s no doubt that music influences, heals, and inspires. With the creation of music videos in the 1960’s, music was also taken to a visual level. Music could now be reinforced by video, displaying a story that the artists want to tell.
Music currently increases in length and graphics, creating works of art in the process. While 2018 is only halfway over, we’ve already seen legendary videos released this year.
Top 5 Best Music Videos
The best videos typically push boundaries. They question social norms and issues and act as outlets for political and social commentary. You’ll find these music videos are motivating, heartwarming, and provide insight into our society as a whole.
1. Drake – “Nice for What“
We think we’ve seen it all from Drake, but he continues to surprise us. “Nice for What” features some of our favorite famous women owning their femininity. These women’s actions range from dominating workplace meetings to playing with their children, all to the latest Drake hit playing in the background. This music video is all about female empowerment.
2. Kendrick Lamar ft. SZA – “All the Stars“
“All the Stars” features the amazing “Blank Panther” aesthetic seen in theaters. In this music video, they travel to Africa where they become immersed in the different countries’ culture, and display some of the most famous relics and works of art. This video helps highlight the beauty of the African continent’s culture, both past and present.
3. Childish Gambino – “This is America“
In this music video, Childish Gambino refuses to sweep issues under the rug. He shoves the current gun violence and police issues that are plaguing this country right in our face. The things you see in the music video are meant to stick with you, such as a man being shot in the back of the head, and a church choir being gunned down.
4. Drake- “God’s plan“
There’s a reason that “God’s Plan” is the 4th most watched music video of 2018. The video opens with the fact that the budget for the music video was over $990,000, and instead of using that money, they gave it all away. Some of these donations included academic scholarships, handfuls of cash, luxury cars, toys, and large donations to charities. You likely won’t be able to avoid smiling, or crying, or some awkward combination of the two.
5. Bashton & Megalopolis- “Scandal“
This music video has only 3,000 views on Youtube, but it’s worthy of the top 5 best music videos of 2018. This award-winning music video features over 2,000 paintings that combine to create the stunning animation. Featuring violence, fire, and atomic bombs, the video is also a societal critique, albeit a beautiful one.
